What a CCTV operator does

CCTV operators watch live camera feeds, spot problems early and decide what happens next: a warning over the speaker, a call to the keyholder, sending a patrol or calling the police. You keep an accurate log, save footage for evidence and pass clear information to the people responding.

In our control room you also support officers on site with check calls through their shifts, and help manage alarms and incidents across the night.

What you need

An SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence, or an application in progress.
Good concentration and accurate, quick written English.
Confidence on the phone with clients, officers and the police.
The right to work in the UK and a five year history for BS 7858 vetting.

Shifts

Control room cover runs 24 hours a day, so CCTV security jobs are usually 12 hour day and night shifts on a rota.

Which SIA licence do I need for CCTV operator jobs?

A Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence is needed for monitoring public space cameras under contract. If you hold a different SIA licence, tell us and we will explain your options.
