What a 12 hour security shift involves
Sites that need a guard 24 hours a day are usually covered by two 12 hour shifts, days and nights. You will control access, check vehicles and visitors, patrol the site at set times, deal with alarms and incidents, and write up your log before handover.
You are never on your own. Our control room checks in with you through the shift, and a supervisor visits site. Every site has written assignment instructions, so you know exactly what is expected from your first shift.
4 on 4 off security jobs
Many 24 hour sites are staffed on a 4 on 4 off pattern: four 12 hour shifts, then four days off. It gives you long breaks and a predictable rota. Other sites run fixed days, fixed nights or weekend patterns.

Where the work is
Typical 12 hour sites include construction sites, warehouses and distribution centres, industrial units, vacant buildings, colleges and offices.
What you need
- A valid SIA security guarding or door supervision licence, or an application in progress.
- The right to work in the UK.
- A five year history we can check for BS 7858 vetting.
- Good written English for logs and incident reports.
- Reliability. On a 4 on 4 off rota, your colleague cannot go home until you arrive.
