The challenge

What actually goes wrong

Close protection security officer on duty

Good close protection is mostly planning. Routes, venues, arrival points, timings, who knows the schedule and what happens if something goes wrong are all worked out before the principal steps out of the car. The visible part, the officer at their shoulder, is the end of that work.

We start with an assessment of the threat and the itinerary, then put together the right size of team. That might be one close protection officer for a visiting executive, or a team with drivers and advance work for a high profile appearance. Everything is confidential, and only the people who need to know are told.

Known threats

Harassment, stalking, disputes or online threats that make public appearances or travel risky.

Public exposure

Arrivals, departures and meet and greets where crowds or fans get close.

Unfamiliar places

Visitors to the region who do not know the venues, routes or areas to avoid.

Information leaks

Schedules and locations shared too widely, giving people time to plan.

Close protection: your questions

Cannot see your question? Call us on 0845 388 0348, any time of day.

What is the difference between close protection and a bodyguard?

They mean the same thing in practice. Close protection is the industry term. In the UK anyone doing it for payment must hold an SIA Close Protection licence.

Do you provide bodyguard services in Birmingham?

Yes. We provide bodyguards and close protection officers in Birmingham, across the West Midlands and in other parts of the UK, for single days or longer assignments.

Who uses close protection services?

Business leaders, visiting executives, public figures, artists, sports people and private individuals who face a specific threat or a high level of public attention.

Can you provide close protection at short notice?

Sometimes, depending on the assignment and the level of threat. A proper threat assessment still has to happen. Call 0845 388 0348 and we will tell you what is possible.

Is close protection confidential?

Yes. Details of principals, schedules and locations are shared only with the officers and staff who need them.

How is close protection priced?

It depends on the number of officers, the hours, travel and the level of threat. We quote after the initial assessment.
