The Black Country has some of the busiest industrial estates, retail centres and town centre night time economies in the West Midlands. Choosing a security company here means finding one that understands open yards in Darlaston and Willenhall, shopping centres such as Merry Hill, match days at Molineux and The Hawthorns, and town centre venues from Wolverhampton to Stourbridge. This guide explains what to look for.
What good security looks like in the Black Country
The standards do not change because the postcode does. Look for SIA Approved Contractor status, officers vetted to BS 7858, a 24 hour control room, supervisor visits, written site instructions and written reports. Our guide to the best security companies in the West Midlands explains each check and includes a scorecard for comparing quotes.
Industrial estates and yards
Much of the Black Country’s economy still runs from industrial units and yards in places such as Darlaston, Willenhall, Aldridge, Oldbury and along the Black Country Route. These sites face theft of metal, plant, vehicles and stock, often at night and over weekends.
A good provider will look at the whole picture: whether you need a gatehouse officer, a mobile patrol at lock up, keyholding and alarm response, or monitored cameras. Many sites get better value from a mix than from a full time guard.
Retail parks and shopping centres
From Merry Hill to Gallagher Retail Park in Wednesbury and the Mander Centre in Wolverhampton, retail sites need visible officers who deter theft, support staff facing abuse and record evidence properly. Ask any provider how their officers record incidents and how that evidence reaches you.
Town centres, venues and match days
Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, West Bromwich and Stourbridge all have busy evening economies. Door supervisors need to know local licensing expectations and keep proper logs. Stadium and event work, such as match days, needs planned staffing, stewarding and search.
Why a Black Country base helps
KBG’s head office and 24 hour control room are on the High Street in West Bromwich, in the middle of the Black Country. Walsall and Dudley are about six miles away and Wolverhampton about eleven, so supervisors, relief officers and keyholders are close to most sites. We recruit locally too, so officers usually know the area they cover.
